Awards for Excellence
Awards and Honourary Membership Program
The ARNNL Awards for Excellence in Nursing Program is designed to recognize nurses who demonstrate excellence in their nursing practice. Each year nominations are requested for the ARNNL Awards for Excellence in Nursing Practice, Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, Nursing Research and Novice Nurse.
Nursing Practice nominees provide direct care to patients/clients in hospitals, nursing homes, long term care facilities, community health clinics, the client's home or any other environment where nurses provide a service directly to clients.
Nominees for Nursing Education are involved in educating students, providing continuing education for staff in the clinical settings or are providing education for clients and families to assist them in learning about and coping with health problems.
Nursing Administration nominees are involved in management of and policy direction for health care services or education programs.
Nurses who are involved in conducting health care research as the main researcher, or assist with the implementation of experimental studies or with the collection of data and/or by dissemination and utilization of results may be nominees for the Nursing Research Award.
The Elizabeth Summers Novice Nurse Award is presented to a Registered Nurse who graduated from a BN Program leading to initial entry practice within the past 2 years. The nominee must be a practicing RN who has exceeded the expectations of his/her colleagues or employer and shows promise as an exceptional member of the profession.
Honourary Membership is bestowed on individuals who have given freely of their time to the advancement of the nursing profession and/or the Association to improve the quality of care provided to the residents of the province. Nominees have had a long relationship with nursing and/or the Association and are recognized for the valuable contributions they have made.
The ARNNL Awards for Excellence in Nursing are presented to Registered Nurses who demonstrate excellence in nursing practice, nursing administration, nursing education, and nursing research. The recipients of our Awards for Excellence in Nursing are nominated by colleagues and selected through a rigorous peer review process. Since the Awards were established in 1992, 35 ARNNL members have received awards.
