Professional Conduct Review Submitting an Allegation
Lodging an Allegation with the ARNNL
As the regulatory body for all Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners, the ARNNL is responsible, under provincial legislation, for serving and protecting the public. We do this by ensuring that registrants (registered nurses and nurse practitioners) meet the requirements for registration and annual licensure, and promoting standards for nursing practice and a code of ethics. If you, as a member of the public, an employer or a colleague, have concerns about the quality of care delivered or about the professional conduct of an ARNNL member, you may lodge an allegation (complaint) with the ARNNL. We will consider allegations against our members in accordance with the Registered Nurses Act (2008). When lodging an allegation(complaint), you should forward a letter with your signature identifying the nurse against whom the allegation (complaint) is lodged and the details or particulars related to the allegation.
The RN Act outlines conduct deserving of sanction to include: professional misconduct, professional incompetence, conduct unbecoming a Registered Nurse, incapacity or unfitness to engage in the practice of nursing, and acting in breach of the Act, the regulations or the code of ethics.
The ARNNL will thoroughly review all allegations about Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners and take appropriate action in accordance with the Registered Nurses Act (2008).
