ARNNL is seeking your input on your Standards for Nursing Practice.
As you know, the primary purpose of nursing standards is to identify for nurses, the public, and other stakeholders, the desired and achievable level of performance expected of nurses in their practice, against which actual performance can be measured.
For the first time, national nursing standards have been developed. The National Professional Regulatory Standards & Glossary is currently in draft form and all nursing jurisdictions are being given an opportunity to provide feedback before they are approved. Once the final version is approved at the national level, ARNNL will explore replacing our existing provincial standards with the new national standards. Since these new standards could be used to direct nursing practice in NL, it is critical that they reflect nursing practice in our province.
We have developed an online survey to collect member feedback on the draft Standards. A secure website, similar to those used for online banking, will be used for the survey. Instructions for completing the survey are on the website. Note that responses can reflect input from individuals or groups (e.g., members of a Special Interest Group). We anticipate that it will take 25 minutes to complete the survey. The deadline for submitting responses is September 17, 2010.
Data from this survey will be compiled and anonymous aggregate results will be included in ARNNL’s feedback on the draft document.
